Be Kind!

Last week, we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King and the amazing things he did to bring kindness to the world. Kindness is the foundation of a strong, loving family. As Dr. King taught us, true greatness comes through service and love for one another.

We can reflect his legacy in our homes by showing compassion, patience, and understanding in our daily interactions. Small acts—listening with empathy, offering encouragement, and forgiving mistakes—create a ripple effect that strengthens our bonds.

Dr. King believed in the power of love to overcome division and build unity. Let’s honor his vision by fostering kindness within our families and inspiring future generations to do the same. Together, we can make a difference, one kind act at a time.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

This is the book that’s sweeping elementary schools across the nation. The bucket provides a perfect metaphor for the way our words and actions can make others overflow with happy feelings or the way we may lash out at others when we’re feeling depleted and empty. Even the youngest readers will set out to fill a bucket near them!

Kiki's Hats: Our Gifts Live on and on

Kiki's Hats: Our Gifts Live on and on

KIKIS HATS is a lively story of a spunky and lovable woman who knits hats and gives them away. Kiki shows us that we all can do something wonderful for someone else, and it does not have to be complicated or difficult. It can be as simple as raking your neighbor's leaves or visiting someone who is sick. We each have the power to create something good that can last a lifetime and beyond! That's the miracle of Kikis Hats.

Do you need a winter coat for your child?

Through a generous donation from Domtar, who donated over 100 coats to our district, we have winter coats for our students who need them. Please stop by the office or reach out to Nicole Meyer ((937) 859-5121  x3780 or nmeyer@wcsd.k12.oh.us) to obtain a coat or to discuss other needs you may have! We strive to ensure that our students are supported and cared for both inside and outside the classroom!

Beginning in January, I will be spending time at Russell as we prepare to combine the two buildings for the opening of West Carrollton Elementary School in the 2025–2026 school year. Dr. Dauterman and I will be sharing responsibilities between both buildings, giving the Schnell community an opportunity to get to know her as well.

Our schedule will be:

MWF: Thobe @ Schnell, Dauterman @ Russell

TR: Thobe @ Russell, Dauterman @ Schnell

Feel free to reach out to either of us if you have any questions or concerns.

OUTDOOR RECESS

Living in Ohio can sometimes limit our time outdoors, but fresh air is so beneficial for everyone. Your child will have the opportunity to go outside whenever the weather permits—specifically when it’s 32 degrees or above and there’s no precipitation. Please ensure they’re dressed appropriately for these conditions.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if your child needs a coat, hat, or gloves. Thanks to the generosity of our community members, we can help provide these essential items.
